The Supreme Court of Belarus reviews cases related to the death penalty as an appellate court. Its decisions can uphold or overturn a lower court's sentence, as was the case with Viktar Skrundyk.
Viktar Skrundyk, whose execution by shooting was overturned by the Supreme Court in 2020, was again sentenced to death by the Minsk Regional Court on January 15, 2021. It was the first death sentence handed down in 2021. On May 4 the Supreme Court dismissed Skrundyk's appeal and left the sentence unchanged.
Viktar Skrundyk was executed by shooting on July 16, 2022. The sentence was carried out one year and one and a half months after the court's decision.
